Jordan: Ten Months

Jordan is now ten months. Is it just me or does ten months seem soooooo much older than nine months? Maybe it's the double digits? Anyway, Chunky Munky weighed in at 19.4 lbs and was 28 inches long. His head circumference was 45 cm. His hair is getting longer and is still a pretty red color. His eyes are still blue. He has four teeth now -- the front two on top and the front two on bottom. He wears mostly 9 month clothes but also some 12 month clothes. He's getting too big!!

I wish I could say he is now sleeping through the night like a champ but unfortunately, we're still up with him at least once a night on most nights. He sleeps in his crib in our bedroom or in our bed. He prefers to sleep on his stomach or his side. Lots of times he'll sleep with his buns up in the air, it's so cute.

Jordan is still a big nurser and eats like a champ. He nurses between 4-6 times a day and 1-2 times a night usually. He also eats "real" food at each of our meals. I have been terrible at keeping track of new foods he's tried but here are a few I documented: pizza, hot dogs, jello, mango, corn on the cob, kiwi, honeydew, and crenshaw melon.

This month we celebrated Jordan's first 4th of July. He also got to see fireworks for the first time. He didn't seem to care one way or the other about them, just watched them with big eyes. We went to the Frog Hollow Park, the Burlingame Dairy Dip for ice cream for the first time, and the Lamar Park Splash Pad. He enjoyed playing in the water there. Jordan loves water. He "jumps" from the edge of the pool at my parent's house (while sitting on the edge)

Jordan also got to take his first car road trip to Detroit for Jessica's baby shower. He got to meet Jessica, Jenni, Katie, and Shannon. Unfortunately, he screamed and cried the whole time so we missed the shower :-(

Jordan can now crawl very quickly. He pulls up on everything he can find and he cruises along furniture. He can stand for about one second on his own but he doesn't like to and will sit down as soon as he realizes you are trying to get him to stand on his own. Jordan's favorite things to play with are balls. He also can find paper anywhere and loves to put paper in his mouth. He claps his hands. He sometimes signs "more" but usually just screams to communicate.

Here are some pictures from last month:

Another Kid

Guest post written by my buddy Bernardo Graham

After our fourth child I decided we needed a bigger house since our little bungalow in the city just wasn’t cutting it. It was way too crowded with all the kids and once you added in the dogs and the cat it was just absurd, to be honest. Anyway, we found a great old farmhouse a few miles outside of town and I knew right away it was perfect. It took a while to convince my husband but once I did he was really glad we were making the move. There are lots of amenities here like www.Satellitestarinternet.com internet and the pool that we didn’t have at the old place which make it totally worth driving a little bit farther to get into town. I sure wish we’d thought to do this sooner but it’s nice to know we’ve got all the time in the world to get it right now! I’m in the middle of getting it all decorated but the kids could care less. They’ve all got their own rooms!

REVIEW: Simple Wishes Hands Free Pumping Bra

In honor of World Breastfeeding Week this is the first of {hopefully} a few breastfeeding related posts this week.

Simple Wishes Hands Free Pumping Bra

One thing I did not have when I was nursing Jacob was a hands free nursing bra. In fact, I hadn't even heard of them at that time. Which is unfortunate because the Simple Wishes hands free pumping bra has been a total life -- and time -- saver for me this time around.

I do most of my pumping on the days that I work. When I'm home with the boys, I typically don't need to pump because Jordan eats frequently enough. When I work, I pump once in the morning while I'm getting ready for work and once at work on my lunch break. As you can see, in both instances it would be helpful to have two free hands.

When I nursed Jacob, I would pump in the morning while trying to do my hair and makeup one-handed. Disastrous! I'd also pump during my lunch, holding the bottles in one hand and trying to eat my lunch in the other. It made for a lot of frustrating times. I'll never forget one time when I was pumping during my lunch break and a nurse from dialysis tried to call me report. I asked her if she or I could call back in just a few minutes as I was just finishing up but, we all know how those dialysis nurses are {!!!} and she said sure but gave me report anyway {insert an eye roll here....} So there I was, holding my bottles in one hand and trying to write report with the other. And then it happened. I spilled my entire bottle. That would have been bad enough {I did not have the super supply I have this time when I was nursing Jacob -- we lived ounce to ounce} but I spilled it all over myself. I had to walk in sopping wet scrubs down to my floor while someone headed down to get new scrubs for me from surgery. It was a miserable experience. And it could have been avoided with the use of a hands free pumping bra!!

Before I purchased my hands free pumping bra, I did a lot of research on which brand I wanted and ended up picking Simple Wishes. I liked that this bra was totally adjustable. It comes with a removable front panel and the back is velcro so you can adjust it to where you need it. This gives you a totally customizable and perfect fit! It is comfortable enough and discreet enough for me to wear under my work uniform {granted, I wear scrubs to work! I'm not sure it would work well under dressy clothes!} And the breast pump stays in place very well. I have heard horror stories of pumps sliding off the breast once they fill up with milk. I have not had this problem.

I am very happy with my purchase of the Simple Wishes hands free pumping bra and -- even though I have experienced it -- I cannot imagine life, breastfeeding, and pumping without it!

I was in no way compensated for this post. The opinions expressed here are 100% mine based on my experience.

Proud Mama Monday 8/1

When I first learned of my pregnancy with Jordan shortly after Jacob turned a year old, I was terrified of having two kids that close together. Everyone told me it would be great because they would be best friends.  And that has turned out to be true!

Sometimes when Jordan is screaming and upset all it takes is Jacob to look at him and come towards him and he calms down and starts smiling and laughing. At the same time, if Jacob sees Jordan is upset he is always right there trying to make things better. If Jordan is in his carseat, Jacob will rock him and say "shh shh shh" Other times, he'll bring him a toy to play with or sing songs to him.

It really is heartwarming to watch them interact.

A Potty Trained Mind

One of Jordan's favorite things to do is play with water. So it really shouldn't be any surprise that we often find him splashing in the dog's water dish. We recently pulled out Charlie's old dish stand to try and deter him from doing this. (Side note: It didn't work!)

Jake came around the corner and saw it, then said: "This for peeing in?"

Oh, I just love him. The kid totally cracks me up!
