Easter 2011

Saturday, April 23: I had to work from 3-7pm. The boys decorated Easter eggs while I was at work because we realized we were quickly running out of time to do everything we wanted to do.

The Easter Bunny stopped by our house that night while the boys picked me up from work and we went out to eat. Jacob had a blast looking for the eggs hiding in our living room. He enjoyed getting all the goodies out of his basket as well. Jordan slept through the whole thing but when he woke up he had fun pulling things out of his basket as well.

he stopped between almost every egg to grab another jellybean from his basket

The Easter Bunny got a little carried away with the amount of candy a 2 year old should have

Sunday, April 24: I regret to say that I didn't get a good picture of Jordan in his Easter outfit and I also didn't get any pictures of the boys together :-( :-( :-( This is because, as usual, we were rushing to get ready. We all got in our Easter outfits and headed out to church. The sermon was really good. Then we went straight to my parents' house for breakfast. We had these ham, egg, croissant things (not sure what they are called) and cantaloupe. The boys each got an Easter basket from them and the big kids got a goody-filled egg that we had to do a goose-hunt to find. It was so much fun! I've always been a big fan of those. We stayed until shortly after 2pm.

After we left my parents' house, we went to Matt's parents' house for dinner. Grandma Joan was also there. We had chicken, cheesy potatoes, green beans, fruit salad, strawberry pretzel dessert, rolls, and cupcakes. The boys each got an Easter basket from Grandma Joan, an Easter basket from Grandma and Grandpa, and a present from Aunt Minnie and Uncle Brandon. {Spoiled!!}

After we ate, Jake found Easter eggs in the backyard.

It was a long, but fun, day! Hope everyone had a great and blessed Easter!

How I Know I'm a Mother of BOYS

This is how I know I am a mother of BOYS. The following are examples just from today.

I was getting Jacob dressed this morning and stood him up on his changing table. He hugged me and said "I want to touch your boobie"
Ummm no.

Later, we were outside playing. He lifted his shirt up a little and the following conversation took place:
Me: "I see your belly"
Jake: "Wanna see my butt?"
Me: "No, I don't."
Jake: "Wanna see my pee-pee?"

Honestly. Where does he come up with this stuff??

Boys will be boys, I suppose.

Five Question Friday 5.6.11

1. Have you ever had roommates?
I had roommates the first four years of college.
Jessica my first and second year; Jessica, Jenni, and Katie my third and fourth year. Then Matt and I were married and the rest is history.

2. How many names do you/your children have? (i.e. Prince Charming William Phillip Arthur Louis John Jacob Jingleheimer-Schmidt)
They each have two names (well, three if you count last name)
Jacob Michael & Jordan Matthew
I do like the sound of three names together and if we ever have a girl she'll have three names (not telling yet). I tried to add an Isaiah at the end of each of the boys' names but Matt shot me down both times. I do love that name though!

3. Did you watch the Royal Wedding?
OF COURSE I did. I want to watch it again :-) And, can I just say that William and Kate are the cutest couple ever!!

4. What is the messiest room in your house?
Um... every room! I guess the worst is the toy room, but isn't that the purpose of that room? The whole house needs a big declutter and deep clean though. I can hardly stand it!

5. What is your ideal mothers day?
Sleeping in for as long as I want - not as long as my children think is necessary. Having a perfectly clean house. And not having to do any chores all day. Oh, and massages are nice :-)
None of this will happen, of course. But... at least it's not my weekend to work!!

Jordan's 6 Month Check-Up

I realized after I posted yesterday how far behind I am in updating. So bare with me as I catch up.

on our way

Jordan went in for his 6 month doctor's visit on April 13th. We left Jake at home with Grandpa this time. He was weighed and measured and then brought back to the exam room. He weighed in at 17 lbs, was 25 1/4 inches long (which I suspect is inaccurate) and had a head circumference of 16 7/8 inches. This puts him at the 20th percentile for his head, 35th percentile for his weight, and 5th percentile for his height.

They took us back and asked us the usual questions -- breastfed or formula fed? 100% breastfed. Does he go to daycare? no. Does he take a vitamin supplement? not really, I couldn't find the iron supplement. Is he rolling over? yes, though he seems to have forgotten how to go belly to back. Does he sit up on his own? no. Does he sit up supported? yes. Is he pooping and peeing okay? yes. Do you have any concerns about him? no.

Then I showed him his cafe au lait spot on his arm. He made a note of it and told us to keep watching. For those unfamiliar, Matt has neurofibromatosis, but his only symptom is cafe au lait spots (and possibly ADHD) so we are always on high alert for signs and symptoms. We noticed a small dark spot on Jordan's left arm sometime between his 4 and 6 month appointments. This is, so far, the only spot we have found on him.

He then asked if we had started Jordan on solid foods yet. I told him we had, but we were doing things a bit differently. I asked if he was familiar with Baby-Led Weaning/Baby-Led Solids and to my surprise he was both familiar and supportive of it. (I was surprised because of the conversations we had at both his 2 and 4 month appointments regarding introducing solid foods)

He checked Jordan out, told me he was perfect, and then asked if we were doing vaccines. I told him we were so he filled out the form and sent the nurses back in for the shots. Jordan did great with his shots. He cried for a few seconds but calmed down once I picked him back up.

playing with the bracelet he was given which matched his diaper, cute!

We go back for another check up when he is nine months old.

Jordan is Seven Months

Jordan is now seven months old (as of 04.30.11) and what a month it has been! A lot has happened since my last post on him. Jordan is now 17.6 lbs and 26 inches long. His head circumference is 44 cm. He is mostly wearing 6 month clothes but also wears some 9 month and some 12 month. There are very few 3-6 month outfits that still fit on him, especially with a big bulky cloth diaper underneath.

Jordan continues to sleep mostly in his crib in our bedroom. He prefers to sleep on his belly or his side, usually the left. He still occasionally spends the night in our bed as well. Most nights he wakes 1-2 times to nurse. Sometimes he does sleep through the night but not too often.

Jordan is still 100% breastfed but we have also introduced him to some solid foods as well. He continues to nurse every 2-6 hours and "eats" just for fun when we have our meals. He has tried lots of different foods, including: banana, carrot, apple, sweet potato, broccoli, strawberry, spinach, cantaloupe, Happy Baby greens puffs, hamburger, tomato, minestrone soup, hummus, four cheese pasta florentine, cucumber, applesauce, orange, fig newton, cheesestick, oatmeal, peach mango applesauce, and water. He has liked pretty much everything when he's in the mood for food.

Shortly after he turned six months old, Jordan became very sick. He has having trouble breathing and had to go in for a nebulizer treatment. We also had to give him an inhaler at home for awhile until his breathing improved. Poor little peanut! He hated that thing!

This month Jordan learned how to sit up all by himself. He cannot put himself into the sitting position but he can keep himself in that position for a very long time. He is also very close to learning how to crawl. He desperately wants to but just hasn't yet. It won't be long before he's army crawling all over the place, I'm afraid.

Jordan met his Uncle Bill (well, MY Uncle Bill) for the first time this month. He also got to visit with Auntie Sarah and Grammy again. He went on the swings at the park for the first time. And we celebrated his first Easter. I will write about Easter in more detail in another post.

Here are some pictures of Jordan from this past month:

Jake-ism of the Day

Runts

There was a package of runts in our pantry. Jake tried to grab them.

Jake: "I want that"
Me: "You can't have that. That's a choking hazard."
Jake: "I like choking hazards"
