Silly Saturday 4/28/12

Sitting near a bald man...
Jacob: "Who took his hair?"

Last night the boys were taking turns blowing raspberries on me. We were all three laughing!

Jacob: "Maybe when I get to be a girl I can paint my nails blue"

Celebration Day #28&29 - Baby Babu Pocket Diaper

{Disclaimer: The below post was written by Amy of SAH Cloth Diapering Mama}

Baby Babü has been wonderful enough to not only giveaway 1 diaper but to giveaway 2 diapers for Baby K's 1st Birthday Celebration!!! This giveaway will have 2 DIFFERENT winners, that is why it is day #28 AND #29 :) The winner will have their choice of either girl, boy, or GN. Thank you so much Baby Babü for this wonderful giveaway!!!  Baby Babu also carries biodegradable, hypoallergenic, chemical-free disposable diaper!!!  These would be great fro when you are going somewhere on Vaca that taking your cloth is just not an option :)  And Baby Babu has offered a coupon code for 10% off and they offer FREE SHIPPING on orders over $50.  Use coupon code TRYUS10.

A Little About the Diaper

Baby Babu pocket cloth diapers have tons of features to make cloth diapering a breeze for you and your baby!

Our one-size pocket cloth diapers all come with the following features:
-TWO openings to stuff the inner pocket of the cloth diaper. Why two openings you may wonder? Two openings allow for the insert to simply self agitate out in the washing machine, preventing mommy or daddy from having to reach in and pull out a yucky, soiled insert. With Baby Babu pocket cloth diapers, just dispose of any #2 in the toilet, toss in the washing machine and that’s it! We’ve eliminated the need for any additional dirty work.
-Our adjustable snap button system, you now have a cloth diaper for life! The button system allows for sizing from 8-35+ pounds, so you’ll never have to search for new diapers to fit your growing cutie.
-Each diaper wing has 3 button snaps to ensure a secure, but comfortable fit (most competitors have only 2 snaps on their diapers). But wait, there’s more! We’ve incorporated an extra gusset inside of the outer leg gusset to help prevent leakage for those little guys and girls that have a tendency towards the dreaded blow-outs or flood style pee pee incidents (moms and dads love this).
-Finally, each pocket cloth diaper comes with one 3 layer super absorbent insert and super soft, moisture wicking liner.

Celebration Day #27 - Rockin' Green Detergent

Rockin' Green has been kind enough to give 1 lucky winner a 45/90 bag of detergent in their choice of rock type and scent!!  Rockin' Green is one of the most well know detergents in the CD community.  It comes in hard rock (hard water), classic rock (middle of the road) and soft rock (soft water).  It also comes in a number of different scents!  Thank you so much Rockin' Green for you generosity and in helping to celebrate Baby K's 1st birthday.

Five Question Friday 4/27/12

1. Do you make your kids finish all the food on their plates?
No. I do make them take a certain amount of bites sometimes but I don't force them to finish everything. I don't want to teach them to ignore their body's hunger cues and learn to overeat -- like I do!

2. Do you give an allowance?
No, they are a little young for that, I think. I don't know yet if I will give them an allowance when they get a bit older or not.

3. Do you actually park your car in the garage?
Yes, I do. My hubby doesn't always though -- it depends on how much crap is on the other side of the garage. Usually, there's too much for him to get his car in. Like now. Once in awhile he can park in there too :-)

4. What is one food you will NEVER cook?
Just one? FISH!

5. Do you have anything exciting planned for the summer?
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited!! We are going to South Carolina for a few days and then North Carolina for a few days. EEEEEK!!!! Speaking of.... I better book our hotel!! It's been on my to-do list for WEEKS!

Celebration Day #20 - Set of 2 Dryer Balls

I mentioned in a previous post about how much I wanted to try dryer balls. Here's another chance to win a set for yourself. Enter below using the rafflecopter form.

Celebration Day #19 - Juppy Walker

Have you heard of The Juppy Walker? It's a product designed to help babies feel stable enough to practice walking while saving Mom & Dad's backs. No more bending over holding onto their little hands. Now you can place them in The Juppy Walker and hold onto the straps instead. Do you want to try it out? Enter below for your chance to win one!

Five Question Friday 4/20/12

1. Groceries are high right now what is easiest way you have found to cut back?
Well, obviously using coupons helps. We use some coupons but we aren't like "couponers" or anything. Nothing extreme. I don't have enough patience for that. We've also found making meal plans helps cut back on our bill because we don't buy a bunch of extra stuff because we think we'll use it.

 2. What are the top 3 things on your "bucket list"?
I'm not sure. There's lots of things I want to do. I want to be a lactation consultant. I want to visit every state in the US. I'm not sure what else right now.

 3. Would you rather give up AC or heat?
WOW this is a hard one. I'd like to say heat because you can always add more layers to stay warm. BUT I really hate hate hate being cold. Then again, I don't like being too hot either. And like my Papa always used to say (and by always I mean he probably said it to me once....) "If you are too cold you can add more layers but if you are too hot you can't always take more layers off" Smart man, that one!

 4. What's your favorite cocktail??
None. I don't drink. I don't mind a virgin version of a Strawberry Daiquiri and Sex on the Beach

 5. What was your first job & how old were you?
I think I was a few weeks or months shy of 17. I worked at a little scrapbooking store called Legacy for a Lifetime. It was a fun job. I worked there until the store closed.

Celebration Day #18 - CJ's Butter

One of the most recommended cloth diaper friendly rash creams is CJ's Butter. I have not had a chance to try it out because unfortunately when I needed it, I needed it NOW and the store I went to didn't have any. But I have heard fabulous things about this product and hope to try it someday {although, hope not to! because I hope we don't need it, you know?} CJ's Butter can be used for more than just diaper rash. It can be used on babies and adults alike for eczema, rashes, dry or chapped skin, rug burn, windburn, hang nails, and can even be used as a leave in conditioner! CJ's Butter contains all natural products: shea butter, olive oil, coconut oil, lanolin, beeswax, deodorized cocoa butter, and Vitamin E. They also have an option of lanolin-free for those with sensitivities to lanolin. Fragrance and essential oils can be added for a scented option as well, but are not automatically included. This is nice for people like me who are sensitive to lots of fragrances.

Use the rafflecopter form below to enter for your chance to win a 4 oz tube of CJ's Original Butter in Monkey Farts. {Yes, that's what it's called! I couldn't make up that name if I tried!}

Save Money on Textbooks

Now that my husband is back in school, I have a greater appreciation for the cost of textbooks. It can be seriously outrageous! And he's only taking one class at a time. I remember when I was in nursing school, a semester's worth of books could cost between $300-$700. And you'd be lucky to get $150 when you sold them back at the end of the semester! I wish that I had discovered CampusBookRentals sooner!

Campus Book Rentals is just as it sounds. It's an incredible webpage that offers rentals on college textbooks. The savings are generally 40-90% off of list prices and they offer free shipping both ways. I suggest you check out this page for more information on how the process works. It's a truly risk free and money saving option.

When Matt enters the nursing program at school, we are going to take advantage of this site to save money on his books. For example, this Potter & Perry nursing textbook has a list price of over $90 and can be rented for a semester for $20.44 {and less if you need it for a shorter period of time}. That's a huge savings!!

In addition, for every textbook rented from Campus Book Rentals, a donation is made to Operation Smile to help children born with cleft lip and cleft palate. How great is that??

So tell me... what would YOU do with the money you save on textbooks?

{Top Ten Tuesday} Pinterest Projects I'm DYING To Make

My mom always decorated nicely for holidays when I was growing up. Even simple holidays were a big deal for us. So holidays have remained a big deal for me. I try to decorate as well, though I don't have as much of an eye for it as she does. So needless to say, many of my "MUST DO" projects from pinterest are holiday themed. Here are a few that I think will be making appearances around my house soon -- I hope!! And I'll be sure to update with pictures of them when they are completed :-)

  • Fourth of July Wreath {some variation of this}

  • Family Initial Sign

  • Mitten Snowman

  • Easter Garden

  • Easter Egg  Garland {I wanted so badly to make this this year but I felt too guilty taking all those paint samples! I'll have to stock up a little at a time to make it for next year}

  • Halloween Boo Sign {I am absolutely positively making this!!! I think I'll start soon!}

  • Un-Paper Towels {I have wanted to make these for awhile. Adorable REUSABLE "paper" towels. Time to green up the kitchen!}

Source: etsy.com via Emily on Pinterest

  • Quiet Book {I want to make one of these so bad. But they are a lot of work. And my kids probably wouldn't care much about it anymore}

  • Embroidery Hoop Turkey

  • Valentine's Heart Tree {Came very close to making this last year but couldn't find a tree I liked}

Celebration Day #15 - Baltic Amber Teething Necklace

I am SO excited about this giveaway! Amber necklaces are something I wanted desperately to try with my boys. Amber is a natural pain relieving product. Wear amber on your skin and the warmth of your body releases it's pain relieving properties. Mamas swear by these products to alleviate teething pain in their little ones as well as pain in themselves. I think I need one for all of my headaches! I wonder if they would help with that. In any case, one very lucky mama is going to win a baltic amber teething necklace donated by Justa Wee Bab Designs. Enter below for your chance to win!

Some info on Amber from Justa Wee Bab Designs:
Wearing baltic amber close to the skin is a traditional European remedy for baby teething. A natural analgesic, amber will help calm a baby without resorting to drugs. Easter 2012

I mentioned before that we had a wonderful Easter but I never went into any details about it.

On Easter Sunday we woke up early and got ourselves and the kids ready for church. The sermon was on joy. It was another wonderful message! We then had a pancake breakfast in the church basement that was put on by the youth as a fundraiser. Unfortunately, Jacob was very crabby and Jordan was moderately crabby. But I enjoyed the food! When we got home we attempted to take some pictures of the boys in their Easter outfits but -- SURPRISE! -- Jordan didn't want to cooperate. Jacob, my little model, posed for a few while Jordan thought running around the yard was more fun.

We gave up on the picture-taking and came inside and gave the boys their Easter baskets. Jacob's basket had: a superman shirt, oven mitts and pans for his kitchen, pack of bug stickers, pack of construction paper, kids scissors, pencil, pencil sharpener, baseball and mitt, spiderman cup, 3 pairs of spiderman socks, cookie monster socks, lots of books (Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day, A Bug's Life, Clifford's Hiccups, The Lion King Slugs and Bugs Ugh, Bob The Builder Scoop Saves The Day, and Mr. Brown Can Moo Can You?) and lots of candy. Jordan's basket had: cement truck shirt, outfit, plaid shorts, books (Bubbles Bubbles, Toes Ears and Nose, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and Opposite Day noise making book), pack of Easter bunny stickers, cookie monster socks, elmo socks, oscar the grouch socks, sports socks, grover cup, plush caterpillar rattle/toy, musical clacker, and lots of candy.

After we opened baskets, it was naptime! And for Mommy, too! The boys slept hard. I had to wake them both up when it was time to go over to Grandma and Grandpa's house.

When we went over to Grandma and Grandpa's house, we had an egg hunt in the backyard. Wasn't that a joy! When I asked Jacob that night what his favorite part of the day was he said it was the egg hunt. I told him that was my favorite part too. Jordan surprised us all by not only finding some eggs on his own but by getting super into it. He was even getting competitive with Jacob over the eggs! I'm not sure because I forgot to count them but I think that Jordan may have ended up with more than Jacob did.

After the egg hunt, the boys got more Easter baskets. They are very spoiled! They each received a basket from G.G., a basket from Grandma and Grandpa, and a basket from Aunt Minnie and Uncle Brandon! After they opened those we ate a delicious dinner of ham, chicken, cheesy potatoes, green beans, asparagus, rolls, jello, fruit salad, strawberries, and yummy yummy chocolate pudding pie for dessert.

After we ate and played for awhile we took a plate of food over to my parents' house. They had planned on attending church and dinner with us but my mom was having a bad day so they had to cancel on both. We brought them dinner and spent some time with them and they also had an Easter basket for the boys. Spoiled! After spending some time there we headed home and straight to bed!

What a wonderful day we had celebrating Jesus' Resurrection with our family.
