Jordan: Eleven Months
Guess who is almost a year old? Now, tell me how that happened! It doesn't seem like it could - or should - be possible. But here we are. Jordan Matthew turned eleven months old yesterday, 8.30.11. He weighed in at a whopping 21 lbs even and measured 28.5 inches long. His head circumference was 46 cm. He is starting to outgrow 9 month clothes and moving more into 12 month clothes, depending on what they are. We can still get away with some smaller clothes but it won't be long before I'm sorting through another box of clothes for him. Sigh. He still has light red hair, blue eyes, and four teeth.
We transitioned Jordan to sleep in his crib in the nursery this month. It went surprisingly well for both boys. Jordan still wakes up most nights one time to nurse but he will generally go right back to sleep. Sometimes he even sleeps through the night. *happy dance* He still is usually found sleeping either on his side or on his stomach with his buns up in the air.
I am happy to say that Jordan is still nursing. {A milestone we just missed with Jacob} He really only nurses about 4-5 times most days so my supply is starting to cut back some. I hope to contniue to nurse him for another at least 4 months but likely longer than that. We'll see how he's feeling about it though. He continues to eat solid foods like a champ as well. We've been practicing Baby Led Weaning and there is really nothing he doesn't like so far. I have been absolutely terrible about remembering to write down when he tries new foods. It seems like he eats anything these days so it's hard to find something new. We did take him to The Olive Garden this month and he devoured the cheese ravioli I shared with him. The rest of his new foods this month were total accidents -- peanut butter {oops! My parents didn't know you weren't supposed to give that to babies his age}, an M&M that he snuck from his brother, and.... dirt. Yum. He also tried kiwi which he liked after the first few tastes.
Jordan's really taken off with "talking" this month. He's been doing "Ba"s and "Da"s but he has also started doing "Ma," "Ya," "Ga," and "Fff." He says "woof" (fff) and "daddy" (da/dada) He no longer signs for more. He screams and/or thrashing his body around in his high chair when he wants more. It's really quite a sight to see. I'll have to remember to take a video of him doing this at some point.
Jordan is still crawling all over the place. He's learning his way around the house and can usually find us when we are in another room. He will follow directions to "come here" most of the time. He started walking behind his push toys more frequently. He also can stand for much longer periods of time. He stands and squats down and stands back up without hanging on to things. Last night he took two steps! Yikes. He's still very timid about walking though.
Jordan is still very interested in all things balls. He can find a ball anywhere it seems like. They always put a smile on his face. He also likes playing with cars/trucks and even says "vroom" (or his version of it) when he's driving them around. Can you tell he has a big brother? He also loves playing with his activity table that I brought up from the basement. Whenever the music goes off he's right there dancing. He loves to climb on things. He spends lots of time going up and down the first few stairs at my parents house when we visit. He climbs on the top of his brother's desk to look out the window.
He's a big water baby. He "swims" by kicking his legs and moving his arms when someone is holding him in the water. He sits on the edge of the pool and throws his body in. In the bath, it's near impossible to keep him sitting because he just wants to swim. He's not at all bothered by water in his face. He even tries to drink the water at the pool by swimming with his tongue hanging out. It will be sad when the pool closes for the winter next weekend!
Here are a few pictures of Jordan from this past month. I can't believe in a month I will be writing his year update and all about his Winnie The Pooh first birthday party! Time flies when you're having fun!!!

Miss me?
Jacob cracks me up. He thinks very highly of himself, as I suppose most two year olds do.
On our way home from the store today {Toys R Us, which by the way has a great deal on crayola crayons!} Jacob asked if we could go see Lolo & Papa. As a side note, we spent the day with them yesterday and didn't leave until after 9pm. After I told him we could stop over there for a little while he said....
"They missed us. They said 'When will Jakey be coming?' They will be so happy soon... when we get there"
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! What a nut!!

Proud Mama Monday 8/29
When I ask Jordan what a doggy says, he'll say woof. Well, "fff" So cute! He'll only do it if his Daddy isn't around though, lol!
Jacob is so incredibly smart. I told Jake we were going to the mall and then started towards the library first. He knew right away that we weren't going in the right direction. When we got to 44th street and I went straight he pointed in the direction of the mall (even though that is NOT the way we take to get there) and said "The mall is that way Mom" How does he know these things already??
What did YOUR kids do that made you proud this week? {Or whenever!} Write about it and link up below!!

Five Question Friday 8/26/11
1. Did you make any fun purchases this week?
The most exciting thing I purchased this week was some chocolate covered pretzels and reese's pieces from my work's cafeteria. As a side note... chocolate covered pretzels with reese's pieces on them is delicious!!! We sort of put ourselves on a spending freeze this week so all we bought were groceries and gas. Nothing too fun there! BUT... today I am going to order new checks and Jordan's birthday party supplies. That's fun, no?
2. If you could go to any musical concert, what would it be?
Hmm... I'm really not into concerts anymore. I have always wanted to see Garth Brooks though, so maybe him!
3. What is your least fav/ most fav house chore?
The least is easy! EVERYTHING!! No, really... ironing. I don't like ironing. Actually, I don't really mind ironing once I start to do it. It's just psyching myself up to actually do it. I put it off like nobody's business. I also dislike folding socks, cleaning bathrooms, and dusting.
The one chore that I really LIKE doing.... washing cloth diapers and loading the dishwasher
4. Would you prefer new appliances or clothes?
I really don't need new of either right now. I want to pick appliances but they are really all still in great working condition so I guess I'd pick clothes.
5. Miracle Whip or Mayo?
Am I weird that I don't think I have a preference? I just checked our fridge and I buy Mayo {with olive oil}

Wordless Wednesday: Jacob's Dentist Appointment
Jacob's 2nd dental appointment was last week Thursday. I had to work so I didn't get to go, so Matt took these pictures for me on his cell phone, which is why they aren't the greatest quality. They are still cute though!

Five Question Friday 8/19/11
1. Do you close the bathroom door when you are home alone?
No. I really don't ever close the bathroom door at home even if I'm not home alone.
2. You have to walk around with a word on your forehead. That word describes you. One word. What is it?
Hmmm this is a hard one. Maybe something like "LoonyTuney" :-)
3. What store do you refuse to shop at and why?
I don't necessarily REFUSE to shop there but you'll never see me in an Abercrombie. Why? Well... I think it's obvious :-)
4. If you participated in arranged marriages for your child(ren), who would you choose for your child(ren)?
I have a friend {Christina} who had two baby girls a few months after I had my boys. So they'd go nicely together. Jacob & Abby and Jordan & Maddie. But now that Jessica has had a baby girl, I might have to arrange a marriage between little Ava and one of my boys :-)
5. If you could pick how and when you would die, would you?
I would not want to pick when because I would not want to know. But I would pick how. Peacefully in my sleep. Isn't that the way everyone wants to go?

Proud Mama Monday 8/15
This weekend was The Big Move in our home. We moved Jordan's crib from our bedroom to his new bedroom and the boys now share a room. We were filled with dread as we reassembled the crib in its new home. However, it has gone surprisingly well!
Jacob has stopped crying and whining for us repeatedly until he finally goes to bed. He knows he has to be quiet because his brother is sleeping and he goes right to sleep now. I think it helps that we are BOTH in his room to say goodnight instead of one or the other, while the other one of us is busying putting Jordan to sleep. He also either does not wake up at all or wakes up and lays in bed quietly when Jordan wakes up to nurse at night.
Jordan has adjusted well as well. He goes right to sleep at night. He does wake up once a night to nurse but after crying for just a few minutes he puts himself back to sleep for the rest of the night. Tonight he even had his eyes open but laid calmly in bed and didn't even cry when we left. He just went right to sleep!
I know it's only been two nights but it has gone better than expected. I am so proud of my boys for adjusting to the change well and for being such big boys!! And to celebrate, they both got new jammies. Pictures to come!
Want to play? Just write a post about why YOU are a Proud Mama (or Papa!) and link up below!

But Where's The Cake?
It stormed yesterday so needless to say, we lost power at our house. It went out while we were out at the grocery store so we pulled out some candles when we got home and had a romantic candlelit dinner. When Jake arrived at the table he looked at me and said "You eating cake Mommy?" It took us a minute to understand why he was asking us that... he'd never seen candles before except on birthday cakes! He just couldn't figure out why we had candles lit but there wasn't any cake. Finally, exasperated, he exclaimed "But you were SUPPOSED to make a cake for Lolo!" (Her birthday is Wednesday)
Silly silly kid. We all got a kick out of that.

Moja Creations Sandwich Wrap Review +Giveaway
I had been wanting to invest in some reusable sandwich bags for awhile when Moja Creations held a benefit auction. It was the perfect opportunity for me to buy some. I could totally justify spending the money when it was going to help people in need. Plus it was a good opportunity to get products at a discounted rate. I’m all about bargains! I bid on a ton of sandwich bags as well as one sandwich wrap because I liked the fabric so much. To be honest, I didn’t really understand the point of a sandwich wrap. After bidding, I promptly forgot about the auction so I only ended up winning the sandwich wrap. It was an impulse bid but boy am I glad I did it! After receiving my sandwich wrap in the mail, I promptly fell in love with the concept of a sandwich wrap as well as Moja Creations.
The wrap was very well made. The outside is a cute recycle print cotton fabric. The inside is a wipe clean nylon material (like a wind-breaker)It Velcro’s twice so it doesn’t matter which way you wrap it. And it holds a variety of sizes of sandwiches. I have used it for a typical bread sandwich, as well as sandwiches on hamburger buns. The stitching is clean and very professional looking.
I am totally in love with this wrap. In fact, I actually enjoy making sandwiches for my lunch now just so I can use it!! I definitely plan to order more wraps from her, as well as some sandwich and snack bags in the future. I hope to be done with throw away Ziploc bags soon and slowly build up my stash of reusable instead. And I know my stash is going to consist of mostly Moja Creations.
Feeling lucky? Meg from MojaCreations has generously offered one blog reader a chance to win a snack bag in the super cute dinosaur print. I love it!!
Fill out the rafflecopter below for your chance to win! The giveaway is open until August 21st at 12.01am EST. Winners will be chosen by random and announced in the blog as well as notified by email. Good luck!

The Help
Today I went with my mother to see The Help. It was an excellent movie! {No, I didn't read the book even though it's one of my pet peeves} I haven't seen a movie that has had such an impact on me in a very long time. In fact, I can't even remember the last movie I have seen that has.
It really got me thinking about the way that we treat people. Not just the way that racism is still present in our society even today, but the way we treat everyone. The way we turn up our noses at people who are dirty or homeless, people who suffer from addictions, etc etc. We never stop to think about their story. We never stop to think that they are humans too. They have the same blood coursing through their bodies. They have the same emotions and feelings. We are all alike, even in our differences.
I am no better than someone else just because I am white. Or because I have a college education. Or because I have a husband and children. And I am no less than someone else for the same reasons.
It also got me thinking about the way we treat our children. Do we ever stop to tell them how amazing they are? Do we ever stop and say "You are kind. You are smart. You are important." Do we criticize them for their wrongdoings or we do praise them for their accomplishments? How often do we hug them or hold them? Our babies are only little for so long and then they grow up to be like us. So we'd better make sure we are modeling the behavior we hope they grow into. I want to make sure I am spending enough time with my children. Sure, it can be harder to get something accomplished with them around. But I don't ever want my children to feel like a burden. I want to make sure they know how much I love them.
I want them to know how proud I am of them. I want them to grow up into caring individuals who aren't afraid to stand up for what they believe in. And I want them to stand up for what's right, even if it means they are standing alone.
It's late. And I'm not sure how much of this made sense. I just wanted to get it out before bed. To summarize.... The Help was a seriously touching and amazing movie and, if you haven't already, you should definitely go see it!
