The Best Part of the Day

My favorite time of day is right before bedtime. No, I don't mean before my bedtime where, if I'm lucky, I can sneak a few moments of me time. I mean before the kids' bedtime. On a typical night we are all four in the nursery (it used to be our bed but has graduated to the nursery now) just spending time together. We are usually all in our pajamas and there are lots of tickles, laughs, snuggles, hugs, and kisses. (And lately, somersaults from Jacob) We aren't thinking about cleaning up the kitchen or picking up toys or preparing for the next day. We are simply living life in the present and soaking up the last moments with our precious babes before we settle them to sleep for the night. It's the perfect end to the day.

Five Question Friday 10/28/11

1. Do you prefer cotton, silk, or flannel sheets?
I like cotton in the summer and flannel in the winter. I cannot stand the feel of silk for anything. *shudder*

2. What time zone are you in?
EST

3. What is your favorite part of the holiday season?
The togetherness of family. And there is just a feeling that's different around the holidays. I cannot explain it but I wish I could bottle up that feeling and sneak a little of it year round.

4. What is your favorite "wintry" drink? (It doesn't have to be an "alcoholic" drink!)
Egg nog and hot chocolate are both yummy in my tummy!

5. In your opinion, what is the worst job in the world?
There are many days when I'm tempted to say "MINE!" Especially when it's my weekend to work. But... my FIL used to work at the poop factory and I think that has got to be the WORST.JOB.EVER.

But I'm Not Cold

This was too cute not to share.

Jacob did not look good this morning. He has a cold but the way he looked, I thought he might throw up. I asked him if he needed to and the following conversation took place.

Jacob: "I just need my medicine."
Me: "I don't have any medicine for you."
Jacob: "In your bathroom you do"
Me: "Yes, but not for a cold."
Jacob: "I'm not cold. I'm sick!"

{Top Ten Tuesday} Reasons I Cloth Diaper

Top Ten {Tuesday}

1. It's better for the environment. When I started cloth diapering it was all about the impact on the environment. It made me physically sick to think about the amount of diapers we were throwing away using disposables and how long they would sit in the landfills.

2. It's better for baby's skin. This wasn't so much an issue for Jacob. He can tolerate anything on his buns, including the awful Pampers Baby Dry that gives most babies rashes. Jordan, on the other hand, is almost guaranteed to have his buns bleed if he's been in a disposable diaper that day. And they are most certainly red if nothing else. Poor kid has very sensitive skin!

3. It saves money. Yes, it's expensive to start out with cloth diapering, but it saves SO much money in the long run. $20 for one diaper? Yeah, but I can reuse that diaper. Versus the $40 we were spending a week that we're never getting back!

4. They are customizable. Disposables are what you get. With cloth, you can add extra inserts for more absorbency at night. You can change the kind of inserts for more or less absorbency, bulk, etc. You can use different styles for different times of day or different activities. I can even take the inserts out of my diapers and use the shells as swim diapers. There are so many options!!

5. They are adorable! Would you believe that when I was first wanting to cloth diaper, I said to Matt "I'll probably order all white diapers" Now I'm all about fun colors and prints. There are so many adorable diapers out there that it's become quite addicting. I have my eye on a few new ones!

6. They are SO easy! Disposable diapers are, of course, about as easy as it gets. But cloth diapers are really just as easy. It was overwhelming when I was considering switching to cloth diapers. But I am SO glad I had the resources I did (Thanks Jen!) and overcame that. It is so easy to wash and care for my diapers.

Okay, so I can only think of 6 solid reasons why I cloth diaper instead of 10. Either way, I am so thankful that I made the switch. I love using cloth so much! And it was definitely a stepping stone into "greening" up our lives in other ways.

Proud Mama Monday 10/24/11

Jacob has become so polite lately. He says things like "no thank you" and the other day when Matt suggested a book to read and Jacob didn't want that one he said "I'm sorry but..." SO FUNNY!!!

Also on Thursday when I was at work, Matt told me that Jacob got up all by himself and went into the toy room to play quietly. Not only that but he had stayed dry in his diaper all night!

Jordan is learning all kinds of new things on a daily basis -- he gives kisses, waves bye bye, claps, and says a few words.

The Zoo Goes Boo

We took the kids to the zoo on Saturday for the Zoo Goes Boo. There weren't many animals still out but in their place were spooky Halloween decorations. The animals that were out had Halloween messages and/or pumpkins in their cages. It was fun. There was a Trick or Treat trail as well so the boys got a little candy. Jacob was scared of almost everything. He just was in one of his moods. Here are some pictures.

Proud Mama Monday 10/17/11

Nothing made me prouder than when Jake said to me tonight: "I'm just picking my underwear out of my butt"

No, really, kids are great!!

In all seriousness, Jake has been talking in full sentences. And I mean, correct grammar and everything! Where he would usually say "My movie stop" he said "My movie quit" (Didn't even know he knew the word quit!) Matt asked if he pushed a button and Jake said "No, it quit all by itself"

When did he become such a big kid?

I'm also proud of Jordan who I SWEAR said "Pop the bubbles" (Pa Da Buba) when Jake and I were singing the Pop The Bubbles song from the library over and over and over.

Jordan's First Birthday Party

We had a great time at Jordan's first birthday party. We did a Winnie The Pooh theme, thanks to my husband buying me the Wilton 3D Bear cake pan. I think it all turned out really cute.

We invited our family and close friends and it was a small party which was nice. Jordan got a lot of nice things as gifts - including new carseats for our cars {okay, this was more for us than for him ;-) } He was getting a bit overwhelmed with all the new things but he didn't have any meltdowns or anything. Jacob was slightly jealous of his new things but they ahve been good about sharing them.

The cake turned out pretty cute but I didn't think it tasted the greatest. We didn't take too many pictures of Jordan eating it since he already had his first taste of cake on his actual birthday. But he still enjoyed it!

Now on with the pictures from the party!
